| Project Description: Looking to install vented hood exhaust w/ fire suppression system, and hook up gas cooking range, griddle, ice machine and grease trap in an existing restaurant kitchen. There is a basement down below where all the gas lines and water lines are very easily accessible to tap into for hooking up the equipment. Restaurant is in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Looking for someone who has prior restaurant kitchen building experience. Also need help with getting all the approvals from local building and health department for this project. Project timing is tentatively between Aug 1st and Aug 31st this fall. |

Basement steps too narrow and too steep
Who would I call to explore possible alternatives to too narrow and too steep basement steps? I'm not sure what is possible or feasible.

Lynn, Check with your local building department; to see what rules/codes they have incorporated. I hope that the information below will help you, but it is very important. The *IBC or most codes says the following: All stairways shall be built of materials consistent with the types permitted for the type of construction of the building, except that wood handrails shall be permitted for all types of construction. Stair riser heights shall be 7 inches maximum and 4 inches minimum this two can vary in your area. Stair tread depths shall be 11 inches minimum.
