| Project Description: It's a MESS! No one has lived in the house since Jan '06. The basement had always been somewhat damp but was kept dry with a wood burning stove. A guy put up 2 8x8ft walls to create a room with a raised (4") floor. The walls and floor are being overtaken by mold. There's a couple of heavy things mounted on the walls that I can't get off otherwise I'd take a chainsaw or sledgehammer to it all. The work area has very bad air quality. Everything down there is heavier now because of the dampness (carpet, mattress/boxspring) and it all needs to be taken out via a Philco hatchway. This job needs a lot of muscle and protective clothing. The mold is my biggest concern but eventually I have to get the entire basement cleaned out (40x24). Lots of appliances, old tools, jars & jars of screws/nuts/bolts,etc. I need lots of help - this could turn into a pretty good indoor job for the winter. Did I mention the pipes need to be winterized? I am hoping to sell the house by spring - actually, I'll be selling 25+ acres and the house (built in 1964)comes with it. But it certainly would be nice to make it more presentable. I'm not set up for pictures yet, but think SCARY - that's how my son described it....Thanks for reading...Alexa |
