All contractors in the state of Wyoming, except electrical, are licensed at the local (city or county) level.

The Wyoming Trade Certification gives information regarding statewide certification for building contracting, roofing, concrete, gas pipe fitting, plumbing, mechanical HVAC, residential contracting, general contracting, framing, drywall and masonry.

Only the electrical field requires a state license.

Electrician Contractor License

An electrical contractor negotiates with a client to plan, lay out and then supervise the installation of electrical equipment. The electrical contractor license only allows the contractor to do electrical work if he or she holds a Master Electrician’s license or has one in his employ.

Electrician Journeyman License

• Four (4) years (8,000 hours) of electrical apprenticeship or experience.
• Experience must include all of residential, commercial and industrial experience
• No more than 75% of it falling under any one category.
• Up to two (2) years (4,000 hours) credit may be given for formal electrical education courses.
• Military experience is acceptable with proper documentation.

The state of Wyoming has a reciprocity agreement for the Journeyman Electrician license with Utah, Montana, Washington, Alaska, , Nebraska, Colorado, New Hampshire, Arkansas, Oklahoma, New Mexico, South Dakota, Minnesota and North Dakota,.

Master Electrician License

Master Electrician can plan, layout and supervise the installation of a wide variety of electrical equipment. Experience and accreditation should include:

• Eight (8) years (16,000 hours) of electrical experience. (Must be obtained  within eight (8) years.)
• Must include planning, layouts, and supervising electrical work.
• Must include residential, commercial and industrial experience with no more than 75% of it falling under any one category.
• Two (2) years (4,000 hours) credit may be given for formal electrical education
• Military experience is acceptable with proper documentation.

For a master electrician license the state of Wyoming a reciprocity agreement with South Dakota and Utah.

The state of Wyoming does not have reciprocity with any other states for a master electrician license.

Consumers are advised to check for additional local municipal contractor license requirements as contractor laws can differ from county to county. It is also advised to double check with the state’s requirements before hiring a contractor.
