Beginning July 1st, 2008 a contractor license is required in Georgia for residential or commercial project that exceeds $2,500 in value. This includes all electrical, plumbing, and conditioned air contractors. Journeymen and masters are also required to be licensed.

Electrician's Licenses

• Electrical Contractor License Class I: Restricted to work on single phase electrical systems that aren't more than 200 amperes
• Electrical Contractor License Class II - Unrestricted
• Low Voltage Contractor:
• alarm systems
• general systems
• telecommunications systems
• unrestricted

To qualify for the electrical contractor exam requires passing an exam given by the State Construction Industry Licensing Board and includes four (4) years of Division-approved experience in electrical work. Two (2) years of Division-approved education can be traded for one (1) year of the four (4) years of Division-approved experience in electrical work. For the Class II exam the applicant needs experience installing systems larger than single phase, 200 amperes.

A low voltage electrical contractor license requires an exam and one (1) year of Division-approved experience. This can be traded for six (6) months Division-approved education for up to six months of the year.

Conditioned Air Contractor License

To do air-conditioner work in the state of Georgia you need a Conditioned Air Contractor license from the Division of Conditioned Air Contractors at the State Construction Industry Licensing Board

The Division issues two types of the conditioned air contractor license:

Conditioned Air Contractor License Class I: This is restricted to 175,000 Btu of heating and five (5) tons of cooling

Conditioned Air Contractor License Class II: Unrestricted license

Qualification for the conditioned air contractor exam requires three (3) years of Division-approved experience in air-conditioned work. The applicant can use up to two (2) years of Division-approved education in exchange for one (1) year of the three (3) years. For the Class II exam the applicant needs experience installing systems that are greater than 175,000 Btu of heating and 5 ton capacity cooling systems.

Plumber Contractor License

The Division issues three types of plumbing licenses. Qualifications require an exam:

Master Plumber Class I

Single-family dwellings

• One-level dwellings designed for two (2) families or less
• Commercial structures of 10,000 square feet or less.
• Requirements: Five (5) years of Division-approved experience in plumbing work.

Master Plumber Class II

• Unrestricted in the trade
• Work experience in commercial or industrial plumbing
• Applicant needs three (3) years of Division-approved experience in the  plumbing trade.
• Up to two (2) years of Division-approved education can be used for one (1) year of the five (5).

Landscape Architects

Landscape architects require a license in the state of Georgia.

Architects, Interior Designers

Architects and interior designers require a license in the state of Georgia.
