Arkansas State Contractor License Requirements

To bid and work on construction projects in Arkansas that cost $20,000 or more requires a contractor license unless the person is doing the work to his or her own property. All applicants are through the Arkansas Licensing Board.

Construction Contractor License

Arkansas requires licenses for both commercial and residential contractors. To qualify for a commercial contractor license classification in any trade the applicant needs five years of experience in it. In addition the applicant has to give the Arkansas Licensing Board a list of equipment you have available to use in the trade and requires contractors to post a bond for $10,000.

Architects

Architects require a license to practice in Arkansas.

Plumber's Licenses

Unless a person work only works on his or her own residence or agricultural buildings a license is required to do plumbing work. In addition the agriculture buildings must be situated outside any city limits and cannot be connected to public water, sewer, or gas lines.

For classifications Arkansas has master, journeyman, restricted, plumber and/or gas inspector and apprentice licenses. An exam is needed to get a master or journeyman license. For the master exam am applicant need five years of plumbing experience or hold a professional engineer’s classification.

Electrician's Licenses

Electricians need a contractor license to work in Arkansas. The following contractor license is required by the Arkansas Licensing Board:

Master electrician,
Journeyman electrician
Industrial maintenance electrician
Residential master electrical
Residential journeyman electrician
Air-conditioning electrician.

Asbestos Abatement License and Certificates

The process of asbestos removal in Arkansas requires a contractor license by the Arkansas Department of Pollution Control and Ecology. To work with asbestos materials a person needs to be certified by the Department. Certification includes 1 year of experience followed by a written exam.

Alarm Systems Installation License

To install alarms systems you need to be licensed by the state.

Landscape Architects

Landscape architects requires licensing.

Consumers are advised to check for additional local municipal contractor license requirements as contractor laws tend to be amended. It is also advised to double check with the state’s requirements before hiring a contractor.
