There are often substances in water which make it unsuitable for drinking or other uses. In order to make it safe to use it is therefore necessary to have some water treatment and purification system. There are many different ways in which water can be purified and treated. Although most water treatment will take place before it reaches your home many people prefer to do some further water treatment and purification at home.
Conditioners for water treatment specifically deal with the problems with hard water but do not deal with any other water problems. They prevent lime scale, thus allowing appliances to last longer and increase heating and soap efficiency.
Activated carbon treatments are effective for removing many contaminating organisms but do not remove sodium, nitrates, fluoride or hardness and probably not lead or hard metals unless specified.
Another type of water filter is the activated carbon water filter. This is very effective at killing bacteria and viruses but does not remove the dead from the water or remove other substances. The water also needs to be used immediately after it has been treated or it will not be effective.
Water distillation provides the purest water but it is also very costly and only filters and treats a little water at a time and is thus a very slow process. If you want pure water for drinking purposes, etc. then this is probably the best system to use.
Another water treatment system is reverse osmosis which also helps to filter out many contaminants but only saves a small percentage of the water that is put into the system and can also provide an environment which promotes the growth of bacteria if not properly and regularly cleaned.
When choosing which water treatment and purification system to use you will need to think about what you want it to accomplish – water contaminants do you need it to remove, how much purified water does it need to produce and what you can afford (both initially and long-term) for a water treatment solution.
If you would like to include one of these water treatment systems in your home or need advice regarding water treatment and purification then you may find a contractor using the HandyAmerican.com directory to search for contractors in your area or post your project to have contractor contact you.
