Water Heaters and Pumps

There are a number of different water heaters and pumps available to the homeowner today, each with their own advantages and disadvantages. You may choose a traditional water heater and pumping mechanism, a solar water heater, electrical water heater or gas water heater.

The Traditional Hot Water Pump

The traditional system of heating water involves heating water at the water heater and then pumping it around in the hot water pipes. This type of system provides almost instant hot water but can also waste a lot of energy. You may find different systems that help to reduce this waste of energy with timers and temperature sensors.

Solar Water Heaters

Solar water heaters are the most environmentally friendly water heating system and they can also help you to save money on heating costs. The initial investment for a solar water heater however may be more than other types of water heaters.

Electrical Water Heaters

Electric water heaters are often used and in some cases may be the only option available to homeowners, but they are also more costly on a long-term basis as you have to pay on a continuous basis for the electricity which powers the heater.

Gas Water Heaters

Gas water heaters are cheaper than electric water heaters and are also used by most people. Lime in water however can be a problem in gas water heaters and may eventually cause the gas water heating tank to start leaking and require replacing.

Tank or Tankless Water Heaters

Today you also have an option between water heating tanks and tankless water heaters. Tankless water heaters provide hot water on-demand and do not keep it in storage tanks. This means that your costs with a tankless water heater are often less, but the disadvantage is that tankless water heaters generally heat a lot less water than tank heaters and so if you have a large family all using hot water for different purposes then a tankless water heater may not be the best solution.

Before choosing your water heating mechanism it is important to consider these different advantages and disadvantages and find the system that will work the best for you. Once you have decided on the type of water heater that you want to install you can search for contractors using the HandyAmerican.com directory or job posting options below.
