Kitchen and bathroom countertops come in many different materials
and styles, each with its own advantages and disadvantages. What
material should you use in for your countertops?
Granite Kitchen Countertops
Granite countertops can come either in slabs or tiles. They are
very strong, easy to maintain and do not burn or get easily damaged
in other ways. In order to prevent the granite absorbing water it
is covered with a sealant which may need to be reapplied every few
years but other than that maintenance and cleaning is minimal. In
addition, granite is a natural substance and so an environmentally-friendly
solution.
Quartz Countertops
Engineered quartz countertops are also strong but they do not
have the same dangers as granite or stone when it comes to the porous
nature of the other substances and absorbing water, grease, or other
substances which could damage granite or stone. Quartz is more evenly-textured
than granite but is also quite costly.
Butcher Block and Stainless Steel
Butcher block countertops are also still popular and are made
of wood. They are generally cheaper than other countertops and
can also last long if correctly maintained. The type of wood you
choose and the style of your butcher block counter top can also
vary to suit your kitchen.
Stainless steel kitchen countertops are easy to clean, durable
and also able to withstand heat. It is best suited towards the more
modern kitchen and can also develop scratches.
Concrete Countertops
Concrete is also becoming a more popular choice for kitchen counter
tops but it is fairly expensive, requires a sealant and maintenance.
It can be a good choice for unusually shaped counters however as
the concrete may be formed on-site.
Tiles
Tile countertops really cover a number of different materials
from ceramic to recycled glass, marble and porcelain. The properties
of your tile counter top may depend on the type of tile that you
choose but you will have a wide range of different styles and designs
to choose from.
These are just some of your choices when it comes to materials
that you can use to create your ideal kitchen counter. You can find
contractors to install your new kitchen counters either by searching
in the HandyAmerican.com directory or by posting a project on our
website and allowing contractors to get hold of you. |
